USPA 'A' to CSPA 'A'

USPA 'A' to CSPA 'A'

Postby SureShotAlex » Wed Feb 22, 2012 10:50 pm

I'd appreciate if anyone can try and clear this up for me.

If I have a USPA 'A' license, what is the process to now going to get my CSPA 'A'?

I've heard:
-none of it applies, you have to start over for CSPA
-some of the previous jumps and experience can be used, it depends on the logbook examiner / luck
-you just need to do the two RW coach jumps, all your previous jumps count

And finally..I was told if you have a USPA "B", you can apply right away for a CSPA 'A'.

There's alot of BS info going around and everyone seems to be saying something different. Anyone care to shed any light...personal experience perhaps?

If you have an FAI CoP, such as your USPA A, you can skip the SOLO stage and go straight to the CSPA A exam. Complete and pass the exam and you will be given your A. Seeing as though you have it noted in your profile as having a SOLO, skipping that would obviously not apply to you as you have already completed it.

The caveat is that should a DZO ask you to perform check out jumps, you are subject to their terms regardless of what CSPA or USPA have to say about you jumping at a DZ.

  • You will need to provide proof to the CSPA National Office of your FAI equivalent foreign CoP.
  • Write the test for each level and pay the applicable fees.
  • Obtain a CSPA membership

Reason: note see later post to correct skipping SOLO cop

Just to clarify in the interest of past events that I have been faced with. Your saying that CSPA does not require that a CSPA appropriated rating holder is needed to sign any said number of required jumps as listed in PIM 1 and on all application forms. In order to apply having passed the written test just a copy of their FAI licences.

Also just out of curiosity where has this been written all this time?

Thanks for clarifying all of this. This will help out with some folks that I have met over time.

PIM 1. End of section 6
I made one error in that the minimum is an FAI B CoP to skip the CSPA solo.

Signatures are not being talked about here as the question was converting an FAI CoP from another association to a CSPA CoP. The foreign association would have followed their procedures to verify signatures prior to awarding their national CoP. In the absence of the mentioned conversion, the signature requirements outlined in PIM 1 are still the rule.

Hope this helps, for more details please contact the CoP processor at cop@CSPA.ca

Just only saw this now.

My spouse became USPA Solo Certified during a vacation, thanks to a birthday gift last year.
I shopped for a Canadian dropzone to bring him to CSPA A license.

I eventually found that dropzones that had both USPA/CSPA instructors (i.e. Skydive Burnaby, Niagara Skydive, Skydive Gananoque+1000 Island Skydivers, etc) tends to be the best fit for converting a USPA Solo Certification into a CSPA A license.
